Solstice report

Release Show: Sun Splitter II- Land of Decay tape
Sun Splitter w/ Anatomy of Habit, My Cold Dead Hand and Swan King
Friday, January 7th, 2011
Martyrs' 3855 N. Lincoln

We are excited to announce the release of the Sun Splitter II cassette on Land of Decay. The tapes will be officially on sale at our show on January, 7th. The cassette is four songs that you've likely heard if you've seen us live. It features artwork by Locrian's Terence Hannum. Limited to 100 copies.

In other news, we will be going into the studio mid-January and have two more releases lined up for 2011. The first will be a split 7" with Columbus, Ohio's own walking doomfest, Bridesmaid (hopeful for a March release). Lastly, we are in the process of scheduling some regional shows and are tentatively lined up for a trek through Ohio/Michigan with our friends Lechuguillas.

Enjoy your solstice festivities, we'll see you soon.

Mopery Final Show Report

Playing the last show ever at the Mopery was not only an honor but also one of the most ridiculous and best things I have ever done in my entire life. Our set was a blur of blood, power failure and flailing young people. All in all, it was the perfect send off for the closest thing to a perfect space we've ever come across. Goodbye Mopery, you will be missed!

Milwaukee/Mopery

We headed north for our first show in Milwaukee this weekend. The Borg Ward were gracious hosts and setup a killer show. Sabre (Cincinnati) killed as usual and Milwaukee's own Shroud of Despondency and Northless were both excellent. Good times for certain.

In upcoming news, we'll be partying with the Mopery crowd this Saturday night. The Chicagoist and Flavorpill both have nice writeups on this insane show. We'll be playing somewhere in between 9pm and sunrise (hopefully). You should come out to this one, and help give the Mopery the send off it deserves.

Back on the Recording Train

We are putting our new, fancy reel-to-reel setup through it's paces and getting some tracks down on tape. Last night was day one. The strategy is to just mic everything up and have at it, no overdubs or other trickery, just us completely live. We had a few good takes but nothing we were quite in love w/. Used tape is cheap though and you can't rush these things so we're headed back tonight to hopefully bash it out thoroughly and w/ extreme prejudice. You will hear it as soon as it's ready.

If I a remember, I'll try to get down there and snap some pics of the setup for all you recording gear nerds out there. It is put together about as cheaply and simply as you can put together a working reel-to-reel setup and it sounds like black magic crossed w/ a hurricane--and I mean that in a good way.

Aug. 1 Show Report

Have I ever mentioned the best part of being in this band is the groups we play w/? FluiD and Drug Honky slayed last night at the Bottle. I'd never seen FluiD before--awesome, dark, psychedelic industrial, the sonic equivalent to the set of Blade Runner. Drug Honky always kicks ass. They had their normal drummer back for this show and it was even heavier and nastier this time around. (Last time we played w/ them they had a substitute who was also awesome.) It left my ears bleeding and I'm used to standing in front of giant guitar amplifiers day in, day out. Our set was all newer material and we ripped through it w/ appropriate abandon. Thanks to everyone who weathered the late Sunday evening to see us.

Solstice Report

Frank is married and we're back in business. Just got the practice space set up again, and installed our new reel to reel (hi-fi circa 1991...take that, Jack and Dino). The next challenges are writing some songs short enough for 7"s and the tape reels we're recording them on.

We're working on some shows for August w/Sabre (Cincinnati) and Northless (Milwaukee). Updates will be here when we have them.

Empty Bottle show report

Thanks to everyone who came out early to catch us last night. It was weird being on stage with the sun still up, but it was well worth it. Dead Times and The Body both killed. It's not often that we show up to a show where a band has a bigger wall of amps and drum machines than we do, but these Providence brethren pulled it off. Excellent dudes, excellent sets, we wish them luck on the rest of their tour.

As always, big thanks to Mark Solotroff/Bloodlust! for putting the show together, and to the Empty Bottle for hosting.

Come join us at the Empty Bottle this Tuesday, April 20th. Show starts at 7pm sharp!!!

Bakery Show Repot

The bakery is, in my opinion, a rad and righteous place to play. We played buried up to our necks in mud and still loved it. As always though the best thing about the show is the bands we played with: Tiger Hatchery, Lechugillas, Electric Jellyfish and Unmanned Ship. Check out these fine young gentleman out if you haven't yet. In the meantime, I am going to wipe the dirt off of my gear in preparation for our show this Tuesday. We should have a new 3" CD ready for the show of our newest recording "Two Cold Oceans."

Friday, April 16, 2010

Tonight: Friday, April 16th @ The Bakery

April 16, at the Bakery w/ Tiger Hatchery, Lechugillas, and Unmanned Ship: 1854 w 21st place, Chicago, Illinois 60608. 9pm, Free?

See you there.

Wednesday Night Show Report

If the Mopery wasn't awesome, we wouldn't drag a thousand pounds of equipment up two narrow flights of concrete stairs to play there. We did our best to leave our standard trail of ringing ears and wind ruffled clothes. Thanks to everyone who came out on a Wednesday night, especially those brave souls who stayed there past two in the morning to see us. And double special thanks to Infinite Body, Sadhu Sadhu, Earn, Dana Falconberry for playing with us. We got the gear all ready to reload and do it again tomorrow, April 16, at the Bakery w/ Tiger Hatchery, Running, Lechugillas, and Unmanned Ship: 1854 w 21st place, Chicago, Illinois 60608

First Quarter Progress Report

We've been busy with a number of things lately, and have some exciting news about two upcoming releases. Just last night, we did some work in our studio and now have a live studio version of the song 'Two Cold Oceans', which has been featured as the last song at our last few shows. We plan on having a self-released cdr version of this performance available at our shows in April.

In even more exciting news, we are working with Land of Decay on a limited edition cassette release of our album "II". This will be available in the near future and will feature the artwork of Terence Hannum. We'll post more details when they are available.

Other than that, we've got shows coming up April 14th at the Mopery, April 16th at the Bakery and April 20th at the Empty Bottle, we are booking a weekend on the road at the end of May, we are planning some more studio time for July, we've started work on a video project, and we will be doing a 7" with another local label in the fall.

There is an album of photos from the Locrian album release show at the Abbey Pub:

Good stuff from us and all three other bands who played. The photos are by Carmelo Espanola and he's got tons of pics on his Flickr including some awesome ones from the Scion metal fest in Columbus a few weeks ago.

Locrian release show

Thanks to everybody who made it out on Thursday. It was an excellent evening with some very intense and diverse performances. We opened the evening, Anatomy of Habit played a couple massive songs with a nice improv section in between, Harpoon showed us how to shred and Locrian provided an exceptional closing set with the help of Mark Solotroff (tortured vocals on the opening track, Inverted Ruins) and Steven Hess on drums. The Locrian set ended with Andre pulling the tape out of his echoplex, much to the chagrin of the gear nerds in the house.

Thanks to Mark for putting the show together, and to the Abbey for hosting!

Show Tonight - Abbey Pub

Hello and welcome to our blog. We will try to write things in it.

We are playing tonight w/ Locrian, Harpoon and Anatomy of Habit at the Abbey Pub here in Chicago. If you are anything like me and just opened all three of the band links in tabs, you will notice we all have very similar looking MySpace pages right now because we all have black backgrounds and are using the poster for the show as our profile pictures. (And why wouldn't we? It's a great poster.)

It's Locrian's album release party for Territories and we intend to play a suitably intense set tonight. For those who weren't at the last show at the Empty Bottle a few weeks ago, you are going to be hearing some pretty much brand new stuff.
